Work Experience at YGC
YGC is delighted to have been able to offer a period of Work Experience to several school pupils and college students for many years. Work Experience with the Service provides a great experience of working in a busy and interesting organisation and learning from experienced Engineers and Surveyors.
As part of the experience, we form a timetable and hands-on activities that give experience of the type of projects that the Consultancy manages.
Work experience offers you the opportunity to taste the world of work and have a chance to see what to expect when working for YGC / Cyngor Gwynedd.
The main purpose of work experience is to:
- To raise awareness of YGC as a fair employer and a good place to work
- To ensure that individuals get a “real” taste of working for YGC
- To support people to develop skills for the world of work
- To communicate clear career paths
YGC will offer 2 Work Experience periods annually.
Summer Period
The first to coincide with school Work Experience in late June to mid-July. This period is open on a ‘first come, first served’ basis to school and college pupils. To manage workloads and for Health and Safety reasons, we must limit the numbers of available placements at a time.
October half-term period
The second period is for college students studying a relevant and specific subject related to YGC areas of work, e.g. B-Tech or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering. This period is also managed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. To manage workloads and for Health and Safety reasons, we must limit the numbers of available placements at a time.
Volunteering or temporary Junior Technician position
From time to time, YGC will offer students a period to volunteering as part of their college or university work, or accept a temporary position during a holiday period. These opportunities are dependent on the availability of YGC staff and business need.
