The Pont Sarnau project in Bethesda marks a significant investment in active travel infrastructure within Dyffryn Ogwen. Delivered by Cyngor Gwynedd, the scheme replaced a century-old footbridge that had reached the end of its operational life with a new 26-metre structure designed to improve accessibility and connectivity along the Lôn Las Ogwen route.

YGC played a central role in the project, undertaking site surveys, designing both the bridge and the associated active travel route, and supervising construction on site. The new bridge provides a safer and more resilient link for pedestrians and wheeled users, supporting everyday journeys as well as recreational use.

The project forms part of a wider programme of improvements aimed at enhancing sustainable transport options in the area. It also contributes to the legacy of the Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales UNESCO World Heritage Site designation, supporting local communities socially, economically and environmentally.

Additional works included the creation of a cattle underpass, allowing the removal of multiple gates along the route. This improved ease of use for the public while maintaining essential farming operations, demonstrating a balanced approach to infrastructure development in a rural setting.
