Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure – Cyngor Gwynedd
Picture of an electric vehicle being charged
Cyngor Gwynedd required a countywide programme to support the transition of its operational fleet from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles. This involved installing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of live operational sites, including depots, offices, leisure centres and public car parks each with differing electrical capacity, spatial constraints and operational requirements.
Our Approach
YGC delivered a structured, sitespecific programme combining feasibility assessment, electrical and civil design, and onsite supervision. Each location was assessed individually to address technical constraints and ensure compliance with statutory and industry standards.
Works were carefully phased to maintain operational continuity and align with vehicle delivery schedules.
Smaller installations were coordinated with the Council’s inhouse electrical teams, while larger and more complex sites were procured and managed through external contractors. Strong governance, regular progress meetings and detailed commissioning checks ensured consistent quality and safety across all sites.

The Solution
The programme resulted in the successful installation, testing and commissioning of over 60 EV charging points, primarily 7 kW units, with highercapacity chargers installed where operationally required. The infrastructure enabled the immediate deployment of 48 electric vehicles, with capacity in place for a further 24 vehicles already on order.
The Outcome
- 100% of planned sites delivered and commissioned
- Programme completed on time and to scope
- Zero reportable health and safety incidents
- No contractual disputes or unresolved defects
- Minimal disruption to live services
Key Benefits
- Proven delivery of complex, multisite infrastructure programmes
- Strong technical leadership in electrical and civil engineering
- Experience working in live operational environments
- Direct contribution to decarbonisation and sustainability goals
